The process

The life of a machine, and the loops that run on it.

Industrial machinery is sold once and serviced for decades. We have run this cycle from the inside with our first partner, and the agents are built around how it actually works.

The life.

Every machine follows the same arc: quoted, commissioned, operated, serviced, repurposed. Each phase writes information the later phases depend on, and today most of it gets lost between them.

  1. Quoted

    A buyer's requirements are translated into a configuration and a price. This translation is where quotation errors are born.

  2. Commissioned

    Installation starts the warranty clock and the machine's first service record.

  3. Operated

    Operators build tribal knowledge over the failure modes. Crews change, and quality and uptime suffer.

  4. Serviced

    For ten to twenty years the machine is repaired, calibrated, and fed parts. Most of what the OEM will ever learn about it is generated here.

  5. Repurposed

    Machines are upgraded, relocated, and repurposed mid-life. Their tribal knowledge is lost, and the new operators start from zero.

Service is not a stage. It is three loops.

The loops run for the machine's whole life, and they are where the money and the pain sit: the breakdown loop, the parts stream, and the contract cycle.

1 · The breakdown loop

Today. A complaint comes in and a manager logs the call in SAP. An engineer is dispatched, often without the machine's history, and diagnoses from outdated manuals, tribal knowledge, and ChatGPT. If a part is missing, the machine waits. If the case needs a senior engineer, the diagnosis restarts from zero. At the end of the job the report is written by hand, a day of diagnosis compressed into a few lines, signed and stamped by the customer, and filed where the next engineer will never see it.

With Antinode. The ticket carries the OEM's SAP call number, and any engineer resumes the case by quoting it. The briefing reaches the engineer before they do: model, serial, warranty, known issues, consumable history, the last three visits, and anything still pending. Diagnosis is guided by the machine's subsystem guides and manuals. A handoff keeps the engineer roster and the log of what has been tried. The report generates from the conversation, the customer signs and stamps it, and a photo of the stamped copy closes the ticket and sends the signed PDF to managers.

2 · The parts & consumables stream

Today. Doctor blades, anilox rolls, dies, UV lamps, printheads, blankets: a press consumes parts for its whole life. A part spotted on site is relayed to the inventory team over chat, sometimes misidentified, and the machine stays down while it is sorted out. The order often goes to a grey-market supplier because the OEM's quote arrives late.

With Antinode. The machine record keeps the consumable history with last-replaced dates and holds pending parts until they are fitted. Quoting and ordering the part at the moment it is identified is what we are building next.

3 · The contract cycle

Today. After the warranty year, service forks: an annual maintenance contract with scheduled visits and response commitments, or per-call billing. Renewals get decided on relationships and gut feel. Warranty leakage, machines serviced free after expiry by goodwill or oversight, erodes margin invisibly.

With Antinode. AMC status sits on every customer record, so the engineer knows the commercial regime before quoting anything on site. The management view measures warranty leakage and the warranty-versus-billable mix, so renewals and pricing rest on records instead of memory.
